Troubleshooting a "Call "HostDatastoreSystem.CreateVmfsDatastore" for object "datastoreSystem-186934" on vCenter Server "<servername>" failed."

I created a new LUN on an HP P4300 Lefthand cluster.

When I try to add the new datastore to my ESXi 5.5 host I get the following error:

 

Call "HostDatastoreSystem.CreateVmfsDatastore" for object "datastoreSystem-186934" on vCenter Server "<servername>" failed.

I can't detect the problem causing the error.

How can I troubleshoot and solve it?

Is the LUN connected via iSCSI ? - then create a partitiontable first. You can do that with any Windows 7 or later. No need to format anything - just create a partitiontable.

Do you mean mapping the iSCSI LUN from a Windows box and just initialize it?
