I'm running ESXi in a Homelab environment on Non-Server grade hardware, thus I also don't have any kind of RAID controller in this PC.
From my understanding ESXi can only grab SMART results from the RAID controller, but can't initiate a SMART test by itself. At least that's what I read about so far.
I just want to ask and create a thread about this to be 100% sure, so is there any way to initiate a SMART test within ESXi? Or are there any known "Community Packages" that work on ESXi 8.0 that, as example, enable smartd/smartctl?
