I am creating a windows vm in ESXi 5. I need to transfer about 1.4 TB files to this new virtual server. Is there an app to help with transfer those files? I think it would have to be on a local usb hard drive? Any help would be appreciated.

Use robocpy tool to copy or if it is on external hard disk are USB you can pass-through the USB and copy the files.
