Tools to troubleshoot possibile datastore performance issues

After copying the same VM hosting a custom application between two different vSphere infrastructures based on ESXi 5.5 hosts I see far different performances.

I suspect a datastore performance problem, and I need to investigate it.

Where can I locate hints about possible tools to use (IOmeter? Other tools?) and the best way to use them to get meaningful results?

Check the DAVG performance statistics from vSphere Client/Web Client or using esxtop/resxtop
