Time Sync ESXi 6.0

I am trying to get things ready for upgrade from 6.0 to 6.5 and one of the steps is to verify that we have a time server setup.  The one that is in there currently is an old on prem server that is no longer active.  I want to change it to pool.ntp.org.  In all my googling I thought I ran across something that said that ESXi host needs to be offline when I make the update or it can cause issues but now I cannot find that article again and the instructions I'm looking at do not indicated that needs to be done.  Can someone please let me know if that step is required?

You shouldn't have to have the ESXi host in maintenance mode (or off-line, not sure how you'd do that?) in order to modify the time server. I would just say to stop and start the service again after the change.
