This kernal Requires an x86-64 CPU

Hi Guys.

I have installed Esxi 4 64bit on one of my workstations. Now the workstation is 64bit Intel processor.

The install of Esxi has gone smooth as with no problems. Now i downloaded Untangle firewall and when i create a new VM i see it as one of the selectable OS under Linux....great i thought.

Anyway i have downloaded the 64bit version of Untangle.

Now when i boot the Untangle CD and it starts the install i get a message on screen that says

This kernal Requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU

Any ideas? is there a setting i need to change?

Thanks in advance

Craig

Make sure you have a VT option in your bios. It has to be a newer processor with the VT option enabled. You will need to shutdown and power up after making that change. Also make sure you picked the x64 configuration for the VM when creating it.

No, that's not the setting. You should look for a setting that simply says "Virtualization Technology." Be sure to power off the system completely after making any changes to that setting.

This setting is for

You need Intel VT (or virtualization assist or similar).

Check also that NX bit is enabled.

Thanks mate.

I cant see anything in my BIOS apart from the Virtulization Technology Directed I/O (VTd).

I am guessing i cant run 64bit under ESXi then?

So which processor are you running on and what is the motherboard of your rig?
