Thin provisioned VM's inflate to thick when moved from local storage to a NFS share

All,

I'm having an odd issue. I have a 7.0.U2 host. It has local storage. It also has a NAS presenting a NFS share. The VMDK files look fine when on local stoage for thin provisioned VM's. If I go to the local storage data store, right click the folder, and do a move to the NFS share, they are fully ionflated on arrival. Any ideas why?

How do you move the VMs?

If you use the migrate funktion within vCenter and perform a svMotion there is a question about changing the format

If you use vmfkstool for creating a copy of a vmdk add "-thin" to the command.

If you use anything else its no wonder why it changed.

Regards,
Joerg

Hi Joerg,

I do not currently have Vcenter deployed. I went to the datastore, right clicked the VM folder containing the VM files, clicked move, and pointed it to the other data store.
