  • 1.  Thin disk not actually thin?

    Hi,

I have a thin disk that was provisioned as 40Gb. In the datastore properties, provisioned space is showing as 44.52Gb but in Windows, there's only 21Gb used. If the disk is supposed to be thin - why is it over 40Gb in size?

    Thanks.

    Hello.

Does this VM have 4.5GB RAM? This is most likely the space consumed by the .vswp file, which equals the amount of allocated memory the VM has. That or you could have a snapshot on the VM. What does "Used Storage" report? That should be closer to the 21GB value.

    Good Luck!

    Hi,

In Storage views, space used is reporting 40Gb and snapshots - 0Gb.

This VM was originally a thick 40Gb disk and I used SvMotion to make it thin. It looks like this may be the root of the problem.

I've logged it to VMWare so will see what they come back with.

    Thanks.

    That's the issue exactly.

Thanks for pointing this out, at least I'm aware of it now.
