The performance on my VM hosted on NFS share is bad, right?

Hi, hoping someone can help confirm if what I'm seeing is within expected ranges.

I have ESXi 5.1 build 1065491 running on a pretty fast desktop. The exact same plain jane Windows 8.0 VM has these boot times to the login screen, starting from a powered off state:

NFS fileshare off NAS device - 6 mins, 11 secs

Local single SATA HDD - 42 secs

Shouldn't a VM on my NFS share be a little speedier?

Here's the details of my setup

Desktop:

- I7 proc

- 32GB mem

- Intel 82574L Gigabit NIC

Cat6 cable going to gigabit switch

Netgear ReadyNAS 104 NAS device

- 2 x 2TB 5400 RPM HDD, in a RAID 1 (mirror) config

- 2 x Gigabit NICs

2 x Cat6 cables going from NAS to same switch desktop is plugged into

Cables and switch tested for performance by using iperf utility and calculating throughput by measuring between 2 other PCs.

Are my expectations reasonable, or am I having some sort of issue or misconfig?
