The Purple screen of death.

Hi,

I'm new to ESXi, I'm trying to load it on an ML150, Xion 2GHz, 4Gig RAM. I'm getting a:

PF Exception (14) in world 9106: sfcbd ip 0x4180055fc21e addr 0x10

cr2=0x10 cr3=0xaca55000 cr4=0x168

frame=0x4100c1ca7a58 ip=0x4180055fc21e err=0 rflags=0x10246

rax=0x0 rbx=0xfffffff4 rcx=0x0

And a whole lot more...

Please any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Usually becuase of a hardware issue. I would try the HP Insight Diagnostics tool.

Also confirm your hardware on the HCL

Here's a video which provides some understanding as to what a purple

diagnostics screen (PSOD) means, and what it can tell you

Hi Paintcheck200,

Thanks for your quick response. I have tried the HP Insight Diagnostics, and this came up clear. However, HP engineers suspect my RAM as being the fault and are in the process of swapping it out. Holding thumbs that his is the problem.

Thanks

Hi Rick,

This video is a good one and did help me understand a little more of the fault generated.

Thanks

for your response.

Hi

Just an update,

HP swopped out the RAM still nothing.

I thought perhaps there was something wrong with the download so I borrowed a friends copy of ESXi and it still gave me the "Purple screen of death".

I then tried  just ESX4 and it loads fine..?

I don't understand. this friend and follow engineer and I both got the same spec lab machines, HP ML150 G6's on the same day, his works fine on ESXi and mine won't.:smileyshocked:

Gonna send machine back to HP...

Boogieman2 out....

Boogieman . . .have you used the HP version of ESXi?

Also, make sure that your USB (if you are using USB) is writeable and has enough free disk space.

Verify that all hardware is ESX compatible (Nics etc included)

Lastly, rip out any hardware that is not core for your ESXi host (spare NICs etc) load up and see if you are OK . .if you are, slowly introduce each of the additional components

One day I will virtualise myself . . .
