Tape library connection IN ESXi 4.1

hi Friends,

I am having a Tandberg Tape library with a robotic arm , which has a LTO4 Drive and it has a FC interface  .Now can i connect it to any esx or ESXi host and make it use by a VM to be configured as a Backup server.or do i need to connect it to a physical Windows machine and make it work.My backup software is NETBACKUP 7.
