i knew that using 3.5 i can't pass a tape drive via fc to a VM, with 4.0 s still the same?

The limitations on your Fibre configuration with regards to Tape LUNs still exist in V4.0.

With ESX4 you probably can use PCI-Passtrough with a separate FC-Controller dedicated to a VM. But this require newest HW and is IMHO not supported by VMware but can function.
