I'm using tirth party tools to backup, and there's a best practise to change the CPU and Memory setting to 1500MHz and 800MB.
In the following VMware KB page there's a description to change the memory allocation, only in ESXi 4.1 there's no propery option in cofiguration > memory.
But in configuration > system resource allocation I can set the CPU and memory, is this the same memory allocaiton for the ESXi console?
Under this Tab we usually fine tune the resource allocation for this host. But this hardly anybody change unless anybody run into a problem. For ESX host settings we usually set the value for memory and CPU for service console or any third party application that we will be running on that host.
In the case of ESXi ,so fat it seems people are just leaving as is uless instructed to change it by a 3rd party app vendor.
Please refer this KB article which entails the details about the system resource memory reservation
Since VMware ESXi do not have a service console. Thus there is no way to change the RAM assigned to it.Service console is only present in ESX so you can change the service console allocation accordingly from Configuration->Memory->property Tab.
What you see in the System Resource Allocation is for setting up a resource pool, configure the limit, reservation, and share settings for both CPU & Memory for the Host.It is not the setting for your service console.
This is a resource pool? Because under the tab system i see all system services.
