Kind of as per the subject I guess. Is anyone using a Synology for ESXi as either an NFS or iSCSI target?
If so I'd appreciate any feedback, positive or negative please.
I have a DS211+ with NFS to 3 ESXi hosts, works great.
Make sure that you have the latest DSM version, it has been problems in the past with NFS.

I am using the Synology DS412+ for home lab. It works well and even if I might not really need the feature at home it is very cool that the iSCSI target has working VAAI support.
Hi,
Just curios to know, howz your network performance? I am using DS412+, but NFS datastore writting speed is awfully slow, reading is fine. I am getting writting speed under VMs about 4 Mbmps and if I try directly on ESXi console to same share, I get about 8Mbps max.
Thanks,
Sameer

I have not really checked it out seriously, but I did a quick test now through iSCSI direct from my Windows 7, and both read and writes was about 70-80 MB/s.
Thanks for the reply. Can you please brief me with your network setup? Router / Teaming configuation?
How many network interfaces do you have on your host and what n/w adaptor do you use for Windows 7. Is it VMXNET3?
Any special setting are you doing while mounting NFS share on ESXi? Do you use RAID5? Is yours ESXi5 or 5.1?
Sorry for series of questions, but I am trying to solve bothering problem since long time.
Thanks,
Sameer
p.s: I have also posted separate thread regarding poor NFS performance and you find it in the same forum.
