Hey, it's my first post. I've tried trawling through various forum posts and other websites and videos however i'm having a bit of a hard time in getting to where I want to get to with regards to having Windows Home Server up and running fully in ESXi. I've attached a diagram of the old setup I had running WHS on my HP server however I've been wanting to upgrade to WHS 2011 and i thought that this is the best time to try virtualisation as well.
I have a physical box with 3 Hard drives. 1 x 250GB, 1 x 2TB and 1 x 100GB. I intend to use the 250GB HD to install my VM's on, ie. WHS 2011 (already done and running), Linux, XP etc. However what I want to do is when logged into WHS, i want to be able to store all my music, photos, media etc, on the 2TB drive and to be able to access it within not only WHS but the other OS's as well. I've read up on RDM's however i'm getting nowhere with it.
Also on my old setup, I had some programs runnign which would automatically download TV episodes for me and place them on the 100GB hard drive which was not part of the storage pool in WHS. I would then manually move them into the relevant shares. Basically I want to be able to do all this in the virtual environment.
The stage i'm at right now is that I have esxi installed with WHS 2011 installed on the 250gb hard drive. I can log in and get the WHS desktop etc.
Can anyone help me on this matter?
