Strange .@GMT-Files - what are they?

Hi @all,

while troubleshooting storage problems we found a number of folders named '.@GMT-YYYY.MM-DD-HH:mm:ss on a NFS data store hosted on a windows server.

As far as I can see they only exist for the ESXi Server (5.0, btw), I can see them when browsing the data store and when accessing the VMFS volumes via shell. The folder contain folders and file that would've fillled the disk space if they truly existed, and on the Windows server, they simply do not exist.

Can someone here tell my where these folders come from, and, more importantly, how I can safely get rid of them?

'Danke' in advance

Dirk

Looks like these are Volume Shadow Copy folders, and can be removed by disabling - see thread discussing this;
