Storage sensors vanished - drive crashed - no monitoring warning

hello all,

we noticed a very alarming behaviour in esxi 6.0.0 (essentials license).

a hard drive crashed, degrading the Logical volume.

our Monitoring didn't inform us because the sensors in vsphere were plainly missing (see screenshots before and after drive replacement, followed by a reboot).

luckily we noticed the faulty hard drive because the lsi 9260 raid Controller has an audible Alarm - without it we would have simply not noticed until the whole volume would have crashed when the other drive would have failed also!

this is absolutely unacceptable and renders the sense of Monitoring useless!

how in the world can the storage sensors just disappear without any warning?!?

We might need further environmental information to know the actual cause however please check if the hardware is compatible with the current version of ESXi using VMware Compatibility Guide - System Search

as far as i can see supermicro X9SC Mainboards are supported. the raid Controller lsi 9260-4i definitely is.

and it happened again. last night out of the blue several sensors including physical disks just disappeared.

resetting and refreshing sensors does nothing. only Thing that helps is a host reboot.
