Solaris and ESXi Fibre Channel

Completely new to fibre channel, so please bear with me.

I'm trying to connect a 2006 Mac Pro running 5.1 to a Solaris 11 machine using fibre channel.

Both machines have Sun branded LPe11000 cards and are just connected point to point. Tx -> Rx on both ends.

When the HBAs were configured with the lpfc_topology of 0, they appeared to come up and online. They negotiated to 4Gb. Problem was the ESXi host was not seeing the LUN.

If I forced the topology in to point to point, the interface starts flapping every few seconds.

Any suggestions on where to start looking?

Thanks!

Sam

Sounds like your physical layer is fine - did you make sure that masking was correct?

Pretty sure the masking is correct. I have tried allowing all initiators to see the LUN as well as restricting it to the WWN of the ESXi card. Nothing both times.

After some more searching and reading, it appears that I can't just connect the 2 boxes directly to one another. I have to go through a switch.

Just won a Silkworm 200e from eBay, should be here Fri. I'll see what happens then.
