Soap error:fault.restrictedversion.summary(error:1519) received at vm.start(2) server is esxi 4.1

Hi all,

I am getting fault.restrictedversion.summary received at vm.start(2) when i am trying to power_on of VM machine. Here, server is esxi 4.1.

Could someone suggest the solution

Welcome to the forums.

If you are using the free version of ESXi and use a remote API to manage your server, you have to know that you are limited to read-only access to your host. Have a look at the following KB for more details:

Hi Franck,

Thanks for your quick repsonse. Is it mean that I can't do power on and power off through script from remote machine if I have ESXI 4.1 server's free version.

Or is there any alternative to perform Power on and Power off action on Virtual Machine

One solution would be to use Remote Tech Support mode and console commands to start your VM with an SSH script. Have a look at the following KBs for more details about Tech Support mode and command line method:
