Slowness issue with Remote App running on virtual RDS server accessing SQL database on separate virtual server in VMware ESXi 5 environment

I have a remote app, that is using Access 97 to run, and runs on a virtual RDS server.  It is accessing a SQL 2005 x64 database on a separate virtual server.  When I run a search through the remote app, it takes 60-120 seconds to respond.  When ran locally on the SQL server, it takes 30 seconds.  I have worked with the software vendor and they think it might be an issue with the ODBC connection going across the hypervisor.  Any thoughts?

Can you reproduce in a physical environment?

Which kind of virtual adapter are you using? Have you put both VMs on the same host?

No, this doesn't happen in a physical environment.  I am using the E1000 and both VMs are already running on the same virtual host.  I think it is strange too.

Try with vmxnet2 to see if there is some difference.
