Hi, all. The following problem is driving me mad, and I can't seem to find a resolution. I'm using ESXi 4 (build 171294) with 1 gigE nic. I use both local ATA disks and iSCSI disks. I would like to copy vmdk files from a local ATA disk to an iSCSI disk, but I'm getting 10.1 MB/s (whether I use cp in the "Tech Support Mode" console or "vifs --copy" or the Datastore Browser). If I use the same iSCSI disk inside a windows VM, I get 28.0 MB/s. This has the effect of copying data from the same local ATA disk (which holds the VM's vmdk file) to the same iSCSI disk, but it's much faster. I've observed that local-to-local copies aren't terrible, so I suspect the admin network is somehow capped.
Does anyone have an advice on resolving or diagnosing this issue?
Thanks. J.
It is a known issue and many posts about same in the forums.
They actually seem to have fixed this in 4.0 Update 1... I can now get around 70MB/s when copying files through the Datastore Browser anywhere on my 1Gb network. Before update 1 I was capped to ~10MB/s.
About time!
