Side effects of iSCSI target reconfig?

Hi, I have a small iSCSI SAN unit with 4 nics presented to two ESXi host.  I use Linux VM's with RDM.  The iSCSI targets are only assigned one NIC and I want to add a second.  The only way to do that as far as I can tell is to create a new target altogether, assign two nics, attach the existing volume, rescan adapters, remove old target, etc.

I know enough about iSCSI to be dangerous and my questions are....

  1. Do I need to un-mount the volumes from the Linux VM's first?
  2. Do I need to remove the disk altogether from the VM, then re-add it after the target is refeshed?

I guess I'm just not sure how ESXi views the targets and will it go in to shock when I make the switch.  Any help is appreciated and any other suggestions are welcome as well.

you should be making the vmkernel with additional uplink and then configure the below tutorial:

there is nothing you will need to do at the virtual machine level.
