Should i upgrade to the ESXi-6.5.0-20190702001-standard released today patch from latest previous patch ESXi-6.7.0-20190604001?

Hey guys,

I'm a little confused by the patch ESXi-6.5.0-20190702001-standar2019-07-02 (Update 3) that was released today.

The date in the name of the patch says that it's the most recent patch to this day, yet the version 6.5.0 is below version 6.7 that was released on latest previous patch ESXi-6.7.0-20190604001-standard which my server is currently running.

So can anyone please explain me if i need to apply this update on my server or not?

And why you want to patch your host.

ESXi-6.5.0-20190702001-standard (aka "Update 3") is the latest patch for ESXi 6.5, but you are already running ESXi 6.7, so another version of ESXi.

VMware maintains multiple versions of vSphere (vCenter and ESXi) in parallel (currently 6.0, 6.5 and 6.7) and releases patches for each of them.

Since you are already on version 6.7 you cannot apply a patch for 6.5.

@RajeevVCP4> thanks for your answer. I'm running currently ESXi-6.7.0-20190604001. See attached files for build number. The imageprofile name is not up to date because i only updated the VIBs manually for patch ESXi-6.7.0-20190604001 since i had a bug with the full imageprofile update (no space left on device, see my previous posts on the forum).

VMware actually maintains 3 version at the moment v6.0, v6.5, and v6.7.

Why multiple versions? Please see General Lifecycle Support Policy

There may be reasons, why users cannot upgrade to the latest version, e.g. hardware compatibility, compatibility to other products ...
