Server Recommendation

Hello can you give me advice to choose server for vmware vsphere? I have one server and I want to buy another new, which will be main. I want to install vCenter on the main server and with second host will be backup. I plan there will be 2 VM with WIN7 and 1 WM with 2008. I have 2 NAS. I want to have vMotion on this servers. I want buy good performance/price server, which isn´t to much expensive. Can you tell me optimal count of NICS?

Thank you very much

Welcome to the Community -  To be able to do vMotion you will need to have two ESXi hosts that have compatible CPUs - If this for production I would confirm whatever server you are looking to buy is on the HCL - http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php - if not you can also look at http://vm-help.com/ or http://ultimatewhitebox.com/ for machines that are not on the official HCL but people have been able to successfully install vSphere

Also be aware that for vmotion you will need to purchase vsphere licenses -

In terms of NICs once again is going to depend on whether this if for production or testing - if it is for production you will want at least 2 NICs for redundancy

I have also moved this thread to the appropriate forum -

what type of server do you have now? chip/ model will help determine what a 2nd server should be.

example: you have a amd server, then dont buy an intel if you want to use vmotion.

I bought a server a while back from serverdirect in the uk and it was one of those you get a cashback. I would have a look at their web site but make sure the servers are compatible and the same make if you are going to use vmotion etc.

Best wishes.

Why not share the load and run VMs on both of them at the same time?
