Server 2008 not seeing increased drive space

I needed to increase the size of the C: on my Windows 2008 Server R2.

I went in through the vSphere WebClient and changed HardDisk 1 from 70GB to 100GB.

I then went in through the disk management utility on the server to expand the partition but the new 30GB is not there.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for you help.

There are a few possible causes:

1. Right click on disk management and re-scan disks.  This should detect the added space.

2. Do you have a snapshot stored with the VM?  If so, then you cannot modify the disk size.  Commit/Delete the snapshot and try again.

i also had one time the problem that the new added space was not recognized.

after adding 1GB more and doing again a rescan the space was recognized and I could allocate the space to the partition
