Serial over TCP/IP with GC iTach

Hi,

Have anyone tried the GC iTach TCP/IP to Serial device? I've got one for testing but I'm a bit unsure how to assign this device to a specific VM.

Does anyone know if it's possible to assign a serial port this way? If it's possible, how do I do it? I'm stuck at selecting the Serial Port Output..

Wouldn't this be an operation that you do inside whatever VM is supposed to talk to this device?  Also, wouldn't it make it more seamless in that if your VM migrates to a new host, the iTach would follow the VM instead of being tied to a particular host?

Well, yes. I would assume that I need to add a virtual serial port to a VM, but I've got no clue how to do that. When selecting to add new hardware, and then serial port, you get four choices;

- Use physical serial port on the host

- Output to file

- Connect to named pipe

- Connect via Network

In my mind the last choice would be the obvious one, but I don't know how to go from there.

The next choices are server or client under Network Backing, and then Port URI. Anyone familiar with this kind of configuration?
