Send Alt-Fx to vm

I'm trying to do a FreeBSD install in a vm on an esxi host.  It requires that I switch to an alternate shell to do some customizations, which you do with Alt-F4.  As near as I can tell, there is no way to send an Alt-F4 to the vm.  I'm running vsphere client in a windoze vm under vmware fusion on my mac desktop running Lion (OSX 10.7.4).  vmware fusion shows cmd-W as sending Alt-F4 by default, but that seems to be getting intercepted by the mac to close the window instead.  There's no way to edit it, only remove it and add a new one, but even then, you can't select F1-7 as a target, only F8-16.  Very frustrating.  Instead of just "Send Ctrl-Alt-Del", vsphere client needs a way to send any key combination... but for now, I'd really appreciate it if someone knew of a way to get just Alt-F4 sent to the thing...  Thanks!

VMWare douesn't really care about it. To  be honest after years of using it I am gointg to leave it just bease of this sh*tty behaviour. I don't reallz known why we couldn't customize keyboard shortcusts? Or why we need Windows to manage ESXi appliance?!
