On my ESXi host on vSphere 6.5 I have 2 physical NIC's configured with nic teaming. They're configured to the switch as:
-Nic teaming (Route based on originating port ID).
-vmnic0 Uplink1, vmnic1 Uplink2
I noticed vmnic1 not being connected to the kernel port as show in this screenshot below:
Shouldn't vmnic1 also be connected to the kernel port? If yes, how do i make this happen?
Thanks
This is normal until you edit the vmkernel port group and uncheck the "override" option.
Hi,
Are there any downsides to either leave the override disabled or enabling it?
It depends on the behavior you're after. If you disable override, the vmkernel port group (or any port group within that switch) will inherit the settings of the switch. So if you want the teaming/failover and security settings configured on the switch to apply to all port groups, then there's no need to override that at the individual port group level. On the other hand, if you desire something different on the port group versus the switch, then you'll need to use an override.
daphnissov thanks for your reply. Useful info, cheers
