STP (spanning tree protocol) on Nexus 1000 or 2000?

STP (spanning tree protocol) on Nexus 1000 or 2000?

I have long fought the battle with concerned network engineers concerning STP issues on vSwitches not being possible.

While I think this remains the same on vStandard distributed switches ...

Can STP and looping cause issues on Nexus 1000 or 2000 switches? (physical or virtual)

Please elaborate with references to documentation if possible.

All points will be awarded.

Thank you.

I guess you were talking about Nexus 1000v. If it is so then ell your network engineers that Spanning Tree Protocol is not used at al on Nexuw 1000v. Nexus 2000 is quite a different product and not really a switch, but a fabric extender.

here is official information http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9902/guide_c07-556626.html#wp9000160  about loop prevention in Nexus 1000v

Here in my blog you can find more detail about how loop prevention works on Standard vSwitch - http://vmnomad.blogspot.com/2011/07/why-virtual-standard-switch-vss-doesnt.html. I think it is the same logic they implemented in Nexus 1000v.
