SFPs failing on switch, vmnics down on ESX

Hi

for a few months now we´re facing a strange problem on one of our 10G switch pairs.

Intermittently one or several SFPs stop working, links go down and can only be restored by pulling and re-plugging the SFP on switch side. Reboot of the host, port down/up or pulling the cable on either side are not helping.

We use Brocade VDX switches, FlexOptics SFPs and Fujitsu rack servers (different models, different nic types/vendors). We also experienced it on one Cisco UCS fabric interconnect, so we dont think its Fujitsu-only.

At the moment it looks like the only changes before it started was adding a few more hosts, so the used port count on the switches increased, and upgrading all hosts to ESXi 6.5 including spectre/meltdown fixes.

Brocade/Extreme and FlexOptics are already looking into the case but no findings yet.

Has anyone experienced something like this before?
