SCSI driver selectio VM version 7

Hi,

I'm trying to get some consensus information of the SCSI adapter to use, the OS we have is Win2k3 SP2 and WIn2k8, Win2k8 R2.

For the OS system drive whats the recommended SCSI driver for this partition, I've read some docs which mention;

-for system drive (Vmware Paravirtual) is not supported so I guess thats out of the question for c:\ then for d:\ I presume VMware paravirtual is recommeded since it yields the highest performance.

-but then for C:\ whats the recommended for Win2k3/wk8 "LSI logic SAS" or "LSI Logic Parallel" we are not using any Windows cluster either just simple standalone servers.

-additionally for d:\ phsycial RDM I presume for I should also be using "Vmware Paravirtual" for best performance

correct?

Additionally once I've changed SCSI driver as per doco.

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=101039...

How can I confirm in the OS I'm using that driver for the D:\ disk?

many thanks

Have a look at:

I suggest to use the suggest controller from the new VM wizard.

Actually with 4.0 U1 of ESX(i) paravirtual is now supported for the C: drive.

For any of these questions, check out the VMware Compatibility List:

http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

Choose Guest/Host OS

Choose your product (ESX) and Product Version (4.0 U1 in my case)

Then scroll down the OS name list to Windows and click Search. This will return all of the different versions of Windows Server etc. Just choose the version you have (ie Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard) and click On "Supported Releases" which will show you all of the virtual hardware and determine what is supported or not, as well as what is recommended.

I changed all of our Windows servers to Paravirtual and have been happy with the results.
