Hello Everybody,
While installing boxes on ESXI 5.5 virtual platform I have come across the following problem. I am running out of the space in the datastore1 in despite the fact my boxes use relatively low level of the VMware resources. However I noticed in the datastore1 folder some hidden files exploiting huge amount of them:
-r-------- 1 root root 3014656 .fbb.sf
-r-------- 1 root root 267026432 .fdc.sf
-r-------- 1 root root 1179648 .pb2.sf
-r-------- 1 root root 268435456 .pbc.sf
-r-------- 1 root root 262733824 .sbc.sf
-r-------- 1 root root 4194304 .vh.sf
I would like to about nature of these files? Is it possible to remove them without negative impact on the esxi performance in the same time keeping the existing boxes? Or just maybe it would be better to remove the whole datastore1 with its all content? If it is the case what would be the most appropriate way to do that?
Thank you in advance and cheers!
E
The files are required, so don't touch them! Please take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1001618 for information about these files. Btw. the sizes are shown in bytes, and the total size of the files you posted is less than 1GB, so that shouldn't really cause issues.

use a tool to run against your datastore and see where the big data is
i use RVtools
you can download it here
check the space graph for the datastore -- check what is consuming space
Sounds great. How could I get it?
go to the datastore view >> choose tab performance
