Running a Script/Command after a VM starts

Hi,

I am pretty new to do this, so appreciate any help.

I have ESXi 4 and using freenas in a vm to provide an iSCSI datastore for some Linux Mint VM's. I have two issues I appreciate some help with,

When I reboot ESXi

1) FreeNAS autostarts but the iSCSI datastore does not mount on ESXi, so the other Linux Mint clients dont start. I have to run esxcfg-rescan vmhba34 and then manually start the remaining VM's. *** Is there a way to auto run "esxcfg-rescan" after FreeNAS has started ? ***

2) vmware tools dont seem to run on freenas. *** On ESXi shutdown is there a way to send a linux command to the guest OS or is there a unix shell script I can create on the guest that will respond to the shutdown command from ESXi ? ***

Thanks a bunch for any help
