Restoring straight from tape to lun

heres a question for you all!

I have just purchased ESXpress for my vm backup solution as I have used it in the past and really like it. Basically i will be backing up vms to a nas device everynight and then on a friday night over the weekend backing up to tape the zip files that esxpress creates (which is essentially just a zip file of a virtual server folder)

so in my DR strategy (of which the above is only a very small part as I will also be writing sql .BAK files to tape every night and the file server/dc's to tape every night as well) if I need to recover my vm's from tape I have to get the zip files back on the san lun and then unzip. Thats all fine and I can just use tar -xvf blah....

It dawned on me that I could restore from tape the zip file straight to the san lun rather than have a two stage copy

I have found a tool called expandrive which maps an ssh session to a windows network drive. I should then be able to restore from tape straight to a san lun using this

anyone know if this is feasable or any better ways of doing this?
