Restart vmware service

To restart the service by typing the following command at the service console

     " service mgmt-vmware restart "

I have read the above in one of the website., could someone please tell should we enter this command at the service console or is it through putty. If it is through service console., how., and what is service console and how do we access it.

Thank You,

Prashant

that command will not work for ESXi, only ESX

to restart the management agents in ESXi while logged in through SSH as root

services.sh restart

Where you would like to restart the Management Agents?

If it is esx then whatever the command you mentioned this you can run on service console (Service Console is the management interface.Provide IP for client-server management, space for additional program (like agent, or similar), a CLI for user interaction, ...) You can access the Service console via any SSH client like putty or you can directly login on to esx machine then you can run this command.

if it is Esxi then from the DCUI you can restart the management agent

Are you running ESX or ESXi?

The command which you have mentioned will on ESX. To run the command connect to the host using putty and run the command. If the host is managed by vCenter you will noticed the host gets disconnected, that is normal behaviour and will be reconnected in sometime

DCUI is known as DIRECT CONSOLE USER INTERFACE. it is bios like console on the esxi to configure the esxi now what we can configure with the dcui that is like you can change the root password, enable/disable the lockdown mode and you can configure management network ip address, dns, default gateway, hostname etc as well as you can enable and disable the Tech support mode and remote tech support mode and esxi logs.

To use it you need to directly access the esxi and then this is what you can do check this link:-
