Replacing CPUs on a ESXi box

Hello

I have recently got a new server with wrong CPU model installed on. I was told that server has 2 x Intel Xeon E5639 but I see wrongly 2 x Intel Xeon E5520 has been installed on it. I'm currently running a few VMs on it. Is ESXi capable of handling such a big change? Is it safe to that or it will break ESXi and VMs? What will happen?

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to swap out the CPUs with no issues -

There will be no issue in swapping the cpus as the ESXi is extremely smart to handle such changes.

Only need to take care about the CPU family need to be same always..Different families cpu can create the problems on existing vms and host as well.

Thanks
