As we are planning to remove one of 3 hosts from cluster in order to add another super power host to our cluster. What caution should I take into consideration? what steps ? please

Thanks in advance

Hi,

1. Make sure remaing 2 hosts can accomodate the VMs which are running on 3rd host.

2. Migrate all the VMs to remaining 2 hosts

3. put 3rd host into Maintenance mode

4. drag the 3rd host to outside of the cluster using mouse.

Hello,

as I understand your post you will replace an old Hardware with a new, powerfull one?

If you do so in an HA/DRS Cluster take care of VMotion Compatibility. It is  quite likely that you have to use EVC to ensure that the new host is compatible with the old ones.

Also take care in an HA Cluster that you can loose the most powerfull machine (= the new Host). Because if the new Hardware fails (or is offline because of maintenance) the last two hosts have to carry the whole workload.

Andi
