Remove Open With Default Host Application

Does anyone know what feature installs the Default Host Application option under the Open with context?

I did not install hgfs or Shared folders

I am on Windows 2008 R2 SP1

VMware tools version

http://packages.vmware.com/tools/esx/latest/windows/x86/VMware-tools-windows-8.6.5-621624.iso

And also version 8.6.0.6261

I do not want it to appear.

Thanks!

Any progress on this?  I have a user on a terminal server who's pdf files are associated with VM host application.  I cannot see how this is happening so far.  I would like to remove the option completely.

Hello,

From trial and errors, I ended up deleting the following registry keys:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\VMwareHostOpen.exe] (the entire key...)

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache]

"C:\\Program Files\\VMware\\VMware Tools\\VMwareHostOpen.exe.ApplicationCompany"="VMware, Inc."

"C:\\Program Files\\VMware\\VMware Tools\\VMwareHostOpen.exe.FriendlyAppName"="Default Host Application"

And the values are not coming back after a reboot...

Also, do not forget to delete the already associated file types the user may have... just search your registry or un-assign them from the control panel.
