Reducing of VM hardisk space

i have created a virtual machine with 20GB hardisk space but am thinking of reducing it to smaller size

and will it affect all my files inside?

Could anybody guide me?

Hi!

Its not possible to resize a vmdk with standard vSphere operations.

If its really important to you, you could use the VMware converter for example.

Also it is always a good practice to make a backup of your files inside the VM as resizing down is usually a tricky situation, as you will not be able to determine where the resizing stops and which files it might affect.
