Reducing converted machine vmdk size ?

I recently converted a physical machine into a virtual machine. The hard drive on the machine was 150GB, but only 40GB is actually used. How can I delete the space that is wasted?

I tried to used the trim tool in vmware tools, but that didn't seem to do anything.

You should use VMware Converter to do that. Do a V2V and the wizard will ask you to "change layout" for your disk

Type the size you want and let's go

Can I do anything after the fact? The source machine has been reimaged to something else.

as stated Converter is your best option for shrinking the disk. Also, if you don't know, you can resize during the initial conversion process.

O I get it...

import another VM from the "bad" vm and resize during the import.

DUH

Thank you !
