Red Hat Server

I have a vm is a red hat server. I have 4 vCPU's alloted to it. The server has a total of 8.  There has been reports fo slow downs on the performance of the applications. The guest OS seems to be performing correctly. I have a suspicion that we over alocated vCPU's. If we take one vCPU way will the guest OS be correct. I am hoping someone has run into a similar situation. 

Any help would be appreciated.

try to bring it down to 2 even 1 cpu

you can check the ready times to seeif there is contention.
