We experience issues with a HP Smart Array P212 controller on ESXi 4.1.0 (348481).
It’s a dedicated controller for an external HP Ultrium 4 tape drive.
The tape drive either goes offline, or the controller won’t start in the VM when configured in passthrough.
In several post people recommend Adaptec controllers but I can’t find anything about this on the VmWare website. If we can help the customer by swapping the controller for another we will.
Does anyone know which controller most likely will work? Is it true VmWare recommends Adaptec controllers above other brands?
