While building my lab, I allocated 100 GB disk to each of 5 ESXIs without realizing I would deploy Freenas and will use most of it for all ISOs and VMs. Now I am feeling that 500 GB allocated space for ESXIs is waste as I could limit it to 30-40 or 50 GB. Is there any way to reclaim 60 GB from each local datastore/disk of each ESXI ? 90% space is free from each datastore as of now.
If there are no VMs on them, they're not being used for Host Isolation, etc. You can just remove the LUN, resize it, and present it again.
These are ravello nested esxi VMs I have deployed and 100 GB single disk is assigned to each. I won't able to remove disk as esx is installed on this disk itself.
Sorry, I do not believe there is a way to shrink the drive that ESXi is installed on. You're going to have to deploy a new host and then destroy the larger one.
Hi ,
Space reclaim will happen if you remove any files and ran commands . But for a esxi virtual machine ( nested environment ) , i am not sure .
But for other OS you may try below , also since its vm you can try .
