Really slow loading of the e1000e module on ESXi 6

I just upgraded to ESXi 6.0 and now the e1000e module loads really really slow. Any ideas? I have a Intel S5520UR server running Xeon E5620. It has an on-board Intel 82575EB NIC. I also have an Intel 82571EB I/O module NIC. I believe it's the 82571EB that is using e1000e. It takes like 10-15 minutes for it to get past loading that driver, but once it does everything comes up and seems to work fine. I'm just not sure where to start.

I can see updating the firmware, but wouldn't the latest driver be included in ESXi 6?

maybe it's actually only working with a generic driver and not with a custom made driver from the hw provider...
