Ladies & Gents,
I hope I can get some advise please.
Currently dealing with a demo version, I would like to test VSPhere at home with a desktop PC in the first place.
The PC specs are the following:
HP Pavilion t3719.uk / Vista Home premium 32bit / 4 GB RAM actually installed - The "Virtualization" option being enabled from the computer bios.
I installed Vmware Player 3 in order to create a new virtual machine containing the "VMvisor" file ("VMware-VMvisor-Installer-4.0.0.Update01-208167.x86_64")
Sadly, when I start the installation, the iso file initiates fine but stops a minute later, leaving the following notification:
Considering I upgraded my desktop to 4 GB RAM, I do not really understand why there are only 788MB found by VMWare.
Now, here is a capture of my PC System Information :
- Can anyone let me know what is going on with my system, and why I can't get the VMvisor installed properly please ?
Many thanks in anticipation,
Anthony
Welcome to the forums!
You need a 64 bit host for ESX(i) 4.

Thanks for your reply AWo
So you advise me to Install a x64 OS ?
I think I can do that !
I may come back later with other questions .... read on :smileycool:
Thank you again!
I meant that ESX(i) needs a 64 bit hardware. What do you want to do? Run ESX(i) in Player?

Correct.
And I am just about starting Windows7 x64installation.
I will keep you updated as soon as I possibly can.
There we are Awo:
I installed windows7 x64 on my PC and installed VMWare Player v3.0.1
But I get pretty much the same error message, apart from I have a bit more free RAM than previously.
Please have a look at my new config:
And this is the new error messge I get :
Sadly, I still dont have 2048 Gb available to complete my Test .... what else can I do please?
Thanks alot!
Did you customize the virtual machine in Player and adjust the RAM size?
DSTAVERT,
thanks for your post.
>>> Did you customize the virtual machine in Player and adjust the RAM size?
Yes I have, here is a capture of my VM settings :
As you can see, "only" 1 382 MB are actually available, but I think I should have significantly more.
So....still unable to test Vsphere
How do I free 2048 Mb on my system, please ????
Thank you!
Check if there is a file named "config.ini" in "C:\Dokuments and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Player".
If not create one with the following entries:
.encoding = "windows-1252"
prefvmx.useRecommendedLockedMemSize = "FALSE"
prefvmx.allVMMemoryLimit = "2048"
If it exists, modify the last line to fit your needs.
André
Hey André
Thanks for your reply.
The tip you gave me will be true for XP users.
But since I use Win7, the "config.ini" file name has changed to "preferences.ini" and will be found in C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\VMware
This is how mine looks like :
.encoding = "windows-1252"
pref.eula.0.appName = "VMware Player"
pref.eula.0.buildNumber = "227600"
pref.usbDev.maxDevs = "0"
pref.keyboardAndMouse.maxProfiles = "0"
webUpdate.lastCheckTime = "1279303773"
vmWizard.installMediaType = "iso"
vmWizard.guestKey = "vmkernel"
vmWizard.mruISO0.isoLocation = "K:\VMWARE\VMWARE - VSPHERE\01 - HyperVisor\ESXi 4.0 Update 1 Installable (CD ISO)\VMware-VMvisor-Installer-4.0.0.Update01-208167.x86_64.iso"
pref.mruVM0.filename = "D:\ESX Server 4.0.vmx"
pref.mruVM0.displayname = "ESX Server 4.0"
pref.useRecommendedLockedMemSize = "FALSE"
pref.allVMMemoryLimit = "2048"
Having said that, I'm now getting:
Not enough memory (2048 MB required, 1784 MB found)
Anyone ????
Thanks.
The 2048 were just meant as an example. What if you set the value to e.g. 3072 ?
André
André
Your method brought some improvement: VMware can now see 1784 MB available on my system, instead of 1384 previously.
However, this is still not sufficient to make it work :
I still need assistance, please.
Thanks.
Interesting. I just tried it (on Windows XP).
After modifying the value in the config.ini (preferences.ini in your case) and restarting VMware Player, I am able to adjust the memory in the VM's settings up to the configured amount of RAM.
