Questions about use of root via vCenter

I'm trying to limit the use of the root account for the ESX hosts.

Can another account (with privileges on the ESX host) be used when you connect or re-connect an ESX host to the vCenter?

Similarly, when you add a host to vCenter?

Thanks.

Hy.

I think you can create an account on an esx server and give to this new account all privileges, i mean the same privileges as the  root acount and use it instead of root account  to connect the esx to Vcenter.

This older thread, http://communities.vmware.com/message/1132478, implies that it's possible.

vCenter creates its own account (vpxuser) on the ESX hosts when it is connecting.  After the installation of the agent it does not use the root credentials that you supplied again, you are able to change the root password.  I hope that helps!
