Question on patching ESXi 5.5 U1c to U3b

I need to patch/upgrade ESXi 5.5 U1c to 5.5 U3b

I understand that I need to upgrade vcenter first to U3b

But, do I need to upgrade the server firmware?  And the Nexus 1000v also ?

We have UCS blades in a VCE vblock

vCenter upgrade is Must.
