Can someone provide advice for taking the VMware-VMvisor-installer.5.1.0-799733.x86_64.iso which downloads as a .zip and putting it on a CD/DVD?
Do I have to do some kind of conversion or it is already an iso?

No conversion is required the ISO is already in the correct format. You can either mount the ISO remotely via a iLO / iDRAC and boot or use any CD/DVD burning software to burn the ISO to physical media (ie. a CD).
To burn a CD, select "Burn Image" in your CD buring application rather than to burning the ISO as a file on the CD.
