Queries on Vcenter Server

Hi Vcenter Guru's,

We have Vcenter server 5.1 it has 4vCPU and 8GB RAM. It is managing 55 hosts and 750 VMs.

  • Every day we are taking 150 VM’s Backup so it will create snapshot and it remove snapshot for every VM
  • Every Hour three times refresh the host hardware by one of our application.
  • Every day 150 VM’s will go to suspend mode after 10 PM and will back to Power On 8 AM
  • Almost 60 users can loggin to vcenter Server
  • Other than the above we are creating VM’s, cloning and other things we are doing depending on requirement

I wanted to know the load and what are all the best practices I have to take care to function our Vcenter server smoothly?

Hi,

vCenter performance is related to your environment scale and your vCenter DB size and also you DB server workload.

Please read this PDF from VMware about vCenter 5.1 SQL performance best practices: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/VMware-vCenter-DBPerfBestPractices.pdf

Also you can add more memory to your vCenter server at this regard.

Consider increasing the ram, the more memory you have the better the performance, I would suggest going up to 16-24GB, if possible.

Are you currently experiencing performance issues?
