Q-Logic HBA and Jumbo Frames

Hi All,

Having specced and installed a system using IBM 3650 M3 servers with ESXi 4.1 embedded and Q-Logic HBA's, and citing the use of jumbo frames thorughout the SAN, it appears that using jumbo frames with Q-Logic HBA's is not supported in ESX 4.x. Does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks

Paul

Hi shmed,

maybe it is not supported (I read that document also) but jumbo frame with hardware iSCSI Initiator (QLogic) works for my production system c. half year without problems...

Mine won't actually enable jumbo frames. When using esxcfg-hwiscsi -l vmhbax, the MTU shows as 1500. When I issue the -j command, I get an error enabling jumbo frames.

I thought this might be because it wasn't supported, but maybe not. Is there any kind of 'negotiation' between the HBA and the switch when enabling jumbno frames?

Hi,

command esxcfg-hwiscsi not worked for me too

You change jumbo frame in bios of QLogic HBA...

Perfect, all enabled from the BIOS. I checked the VMware HCL site and it seems that they make no reference to the card being unsupported for jumbo frames. I guess that means they are supported by VMware.

Cheers for the help Smiley Happy
